THE VAL-JALBERT EPIC
In the grinding room at the Val-Jalbert mill, visitors relive the emotions of the village’s heroic past as short vignettes narrate the story of an era. In addition to producing the show, Idées au cube designed the visitor reception area and updated models explaining changes made to the mill over the years and how pulp for newsprint was made.
Thrust into the 21st century by technology, two interactive models present the technical aspects of the mill site and operations in an entertaining way.
Expertly incorporated period images and animation explain grinding in simple terms. Videos describing the steps in paper production appear on screens around the models.
The workers’ room is the mill reception area. It sets the tone for the visit and reminds visitors that they’re in the heart of a company town, where people once laboured to produce goods.
With an air of suspense, the show trailer sets the stage for the Val-Jalbert epic. At the foot of the falls, within the walls of the old mill, visitors will watch the story unfold all around them. Sensory effects will reinforce the sensation of being caught up in the adventure.
