MONTREAL, FORTIFIED CITY

Turning the passive observation of a historical model into a captivating interactive experience was the challenge met by Idées au cube. Divided into six zones, the animated model lets visitors explore the history of each area of Montreal circa 1740.

HISTORY BIG AND SMALL

Montrealists’ fondness for revelry, rue Saint-Paul, Bonsecours chapel, Montreal’s citadel, 18th-century hygiene—in all, 12 themes were scripted with historical rigour, and with the aim of entertaining. Here, a vignette explains that Montrealists liked to have a good time!

CREATIVE PROCESS

Archival documents were brought to life through various techniques: colouring, light and texturing, cropping, depth, layering, movement, etc. When a video is started, the model comes alive at the same time: a season, a fire, daytime or nighttime is simulated; a flock of birds or clouds fly over; long-gone buildings reappear.
